ROSES:
In 1969 the US set aside the month of June as National Rose Month.
Apples, Pears and Peaches are all members of the rose family
Eighty percent of the world's rose species come from Asia
U.S. President George Washington, was one of the first rose breeders in the U.S. He designed his own garden at Mt. Vernon and filled it with his own selections of roses; naming one variety after his mother (Mary) and another after his wife (Martha).
Queen Elizabeth had a larger variety of pink tearoses named after her. The Queen Elizabeth rose is a vigorous plant, especially suited for the back of the border
It takes 9,000 pounds of roses or aprox. 55,000 blossoms, to extract just two pounds of rose essence (used in fragrances).
There is an old "city law" still on record in Riverside, California, which makes it illegal to kiss unless both parties wipe their lips with rose water
