If you purchase cherry tomatoes at the market, save the plastic baskets to dry your flowers and herbs for crafting.

Use pieces of broken pottery or terra cotta pots to make a lovely wind chime.

When planning your garden take note of the times your plants will be in bloom for year round color.

Belinda of Lancaster, PA "I make hebal bath bombs, fizzies, and cookies from the dried herbs from my garden to give to friends and family. I even make them for myself when I have time" Teresa of Indiana "I like to make trellises out of the stalks from my mammoth sunflowers! (-: I cut them down in the fall, and whip them up!" Marsha of Newburgh, Indiana "I make gourd candlesticks, vases, bowls, birdhouses, etc. I also give vegetables and flowers from my garden and put the flowers in the gourd vases. I also put the flowers in old wooden boxes or twig baskets." Pauline of Vernon, British Columbia "I often make a bouquet of fresh chives, parsley, dill, fresh sage and any other fresh and neat smelling herbs from my garden when going out to dinner at friends', etc. Either the bouquet goes into a vase or the refrigerator to be used at a later time!." Margarett of Memphis, TN "I enjoy several things with my rose petals. If you have the time, you can press and extract the oil to make homemade bath salts by mixing some with some simple epsom salt. Potpourri is always an easy thing to do. Simple arrangements of my roses are as enjoyable to give as receive!" Caren of Fairfax VA "I take a 4" flower pot and root spearmint. Then I put a bow around it and give it with some regular teabags in order to assemble "mint" tea. Take one teabag and steep with a few leaves of mint. Add sugar. Great hot in the summer!" After you pick your gourds, allow them to dry out. You can tell they are ready when you tap them and not only hear a hollow sound, but when you shake themk you can hear the dried seeds inside. Maracas - This is the easiest of all! Dry your gourd and shake away! We love to paint these bright colors or draw silly pictures on them. Great for younger kids too! Birdhouses - Using a sharp knife, cut a small hole in the middle of the gourd. Shake out all seeds and insides that you can. Or, leave some seed in there for the bids to enjoy. You can paint these as well, but be careful to use non-toxic paints for our flying friends. Hang outside or decorate and give to your family and friends as gifts. Birdfeeders - Much like the birdhouse, use a sharp knife to cut a hole in the middle. But make this one larger to get the bird food in. Sccop out the dried insides and fill!
