January 2009 Contest Winner
Congratulations to: Bernadette of Newaygo, Michigan The winner of the contest in January.

Bernadette's Suggestions for a Bird Friendly Garden: "The two best ways to keep birds coming back to your garden is give them access to water - a heated bird bath would be great! And to have several bird feeders, each with a different bird feed. One type of bird feed isn't going to cut it because it will only attract a few types of birds. Have a variety of bird seed such as millet, safflower, sunflower, and nyger. Suet is also a good bird attractant."

December 2008 Contest Winner
Congratulations to: Suzanne Kornmaier of Riverside, CA The winner of the contest in December.

Suzanne's Comments for our Bonus Question: "I'm currently working on a Mescal Bean tree. The seeds are hard to sprout (a friend of mine managed, and shared a seedling with me). Then, they like a particular kind of soil (she's got limestone around hers). They are slow to grow, BUT every spring, they have the most lucious sprays of pale lavendar blooms that smell like grape juice! Fabulous!."
