July 2007 Contest Winner

Congratulations to Katherine Kocs of Madison WI - the winner of the contest in July.

Katherine's tips for Baking bread with herbs:

"Herbs can slow growth of yeast, so the later you can add them to bread doughs, the better. Add fresh herbs such as basil, sage, thyme, rosemary, etc. just before the second raising of bread dough. Or try gently brushing the top of your risen dough with melted butter infused with your favorite herbs just as you pop the dough into the oven. You can cover the dough with a foil "tent" to help keep the crust from over-browning because of the butter, and remove it abut half-way through baking. The herb "crust" is a wonderful way to add flavor."
