May Contest
We have a "two-time" Winner! Congratulations to Debi of Saint Marys Georgia. - Last month's lucky winner of the Mystery Prize from Mailorder Garden.

Debi's Lawn Care Tips:
"Do not mow the grass too low as this will inhibit lawn diseases to take hold and also can result in a semi burned. Also, try to rake the heavy "thatch" from your grass every now and then and this will keep the newer grass sprigs to get air, sunlight, and water. When you are mowing your yard, you can wear cleated shoes and this will perform a "mini" aerating. this also helps the grass to spread and stay healthy by de-compacting the soil. Thru time and wear, soil can become very compacted and thus making it harder for lawns to get the proper nutrients needed for health. To keep your grass mowing at an optimum, make sure to keep sharp blades on your mower... you will hve better mowing and no jagged grass blades. When fertilizing your lawn be sure to read the directions on the package. I once thought if the recommneded amount got good results then surely a "little more" would get even better results.....what i ended up with was a lush fast growth spurt and then also as fast... a dead dying lawn... I had used way to much and burnt my lawn. Lesson well learned!!!"

Designing Your Entrance

As we approach any building for the first time the entryway gives us the first impression and prepares us for entering the building. Therefore, a smooth, functional and visually attractive design will enhance the experience. There are many things to consider such as: the access, traffic pattern and capacity, climate, privacy, the house appearance, and the proportions of the front door.

April Contest
Congratulations to Debi of Saint Marys Georgia. - Last month's lucky winner of the Mystery Prize (A lovely Victorian Stained Glass Birdfeeder and A Stained Glass Daisy Windchime ) from Mailorder Garden.

Debi's Comments on Organic Gardening and Recycling:
"I have always wanted a floweor and vegetable garden but living on a "tiny" budget I rarely found the extra money to amend my soil making it good for planting. Little did I know but I had everything alredy to get some of the best soil around. I started a compost with all my yard clippings, kitchen scraps papers and just abuot anything else that isnt a meat by product into the pile. I worked as hard on doing this as it takes to go out and toss stuff onto the pile and turn every now and then. The heaat from the sun virtually turned all this "waste" into some of the richest dirt around. and turned my garden into a profuse flower and vegetable plot. I would recommend this to anyone. fixed income, little income, or even for those who have a wealthy wallet.... it is good therapy for the soul as is gardening".

February / March Contest
Congratulations to Gladys of Houston TX. - Last month's lucky winner of the Mystery Prize ( A Flower Fairy Birdfeeder ) from Mailorder Garden.

Gladys's Comments on Winter Blooms:
"My only indoor winter bloomers are African Violets, but I grow a number of outdoor plants in the winter. I only need to cover them if the weather threatens to freeze. Having flowers blooming when the weather is cold is a cheer-bringing experience. Spring has come and my orchid trees are in full-bloom. Also, my Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow bushes, Azaleas, Freesias, Geraniums and Irises. Yard is beginning to look really pretty.".
