Pruning Hydrangea

My hydrangea is out of control. It is now almost 12 feet tall and 10 feet wide. It is starting to block the windows it is under. The three main stalks are 3 inches in diameter. How far back can it be pruned so I can get it back under control.

Most hydrangea can withstand a pretty severe pruning once they get that big. Try to leave a few bud nodes on each branch minimum.

Find out if you kind that blooms on old wood or new wood before a harsh pruning
