Hydrangea:

  • Hydrangias prefer rich, well drained soil. This perennial is propogated by division, root cuttings and seeds.

  • Add lime to your soil to get a pinker color. Add aluminum sulphate for a bluer color.

  • White hydrangias cannot be manipulated to turn pink or blue but occaisionally do so with age. I have red hydrangias but "true reds" are very rare!

  • Most hydrangias don't need to be pruned. If your plant is getting to big, find out if you have the type that blooms on "old wood" or "new wood". If it blooms on "old wood" you should prune it during the summer. If you prune it in the winter or spring you will probably get little to no flowers that year.

"Gardening is an active participation in the deepest mysteries
of the universe" - Thomas Berry
