 June Feature:  Weed ending secrets

Annual weeds produce thousands of seeds. They are carried in the wind, by people and animals and each seed develops into more weeds. To break this cycle, don't ever allow annual weeds to go to seed. Get rid of them when they first begin sprouting. (usually after a rain) Get more WEED ENDING SECRETS  HERE.

Tips for Fresh Cut Roses:

  • Always remove the leaves and thorns of Roses below the water line to avoid contamination of water. This also creates more openings for water to enter. Changing water daily will help roses last longer. Use luke warm water.

  • If the head of your rose breaks away from the stem, cut the stem off totally and throw it away. Place rose in a shallow glass bowl with a little water and suger mixture. This makes a wonderful centerpiece.

  • Prevent Fresh cut Roses from drooping. Poke a pinhole through the stem, just below the bloom.

  • To revitalize wilted flowers place them in a plastic bag with a couple of apple slices.

  • If your roses have just about had it, spray the heads with hairspray to enjoy them a few extra days. Spray from beneath in an upwards direction. This will prevent petals from dropping off.

  • Place a plastic straw over the end of your stem to add length if the flower isn't quite long enough.
