Give your asparagus beds a light covering with rich compost.

Dig vegetable plots, if not completed. Use well decomposed garden compost.

Prepare soil for planting potato crops. Plant them in areas that have previously been over grown with perennial weeds. You can reduce chances of reoccurance and help to break up the soil by planting potatoes in rows three feet apart. Remove and burn all existing perennial weeds.

Jan of Bishop, TX - "I take the seeds, wet a heavy duty paper towel and roll up the seeds in it, then wrap the paper towel in plastic wrap. I leave it overnight and then plant the next day, after unrolling it carefully."

Bryce of Las vegas Nevada - "Eggplant is hard for me to sprout so when I start them I make a little green house by cutting a Two litter coke-cola bottle in half then drill a hole in the cap of the bottle and pull a string through the hole then screw the cap to the top half and fill with soil. I also fill the bottom half with water and put the top half on top so that the drilled hole touchs the water.You also have to cut another bottle in half and use the top half as the roof and fasten it with duck tape. and it grows!"

Mar of Montreal Canada - "I will start my tomatoes March 10th, and every 2 weeks after that until May 1st ,when I will plant the last ones directly into the garden. I plant 8 varieties. I plant them in a window box with regular soil because I find that they do better than in cells and have a better root system. After they have grown for one month, I nip off the bottom two leaves and add 1 inch of soil to the box to cover the stem where I took the leaves from. This makes more roots and has never failed to give me the best tomato plants ever and for some strange reason, for the last 6 years, I have never had a plant problem. When I transfer them into the garden soil, I repeat the process, burying them up past the stem where I take the leaves from. I also add a large scoop of fresh compost from my bin in the bottom of the hole first. I can taste them now, yummmmm.I have the first tomatoes by June 10th and up until frost. Then I have fried green tomatoes for a week, and lots for canning and pickling. "
